A little history

In ancient times and even today in some contexts, single mothers were victims of discrimination, and based on different backgrounds, from religious mandates to social prejudice.

In many current societies there is a legal body that eliminates discrimination against single mothers and their children, and even some national Governments (even third world countries) have institutionalized for homes programs scholarships for children and grants for single mothers, where women are heads, including State aid, bank loans that women start small and medium-sized enterprises, and others.

Similarly, each day is more common that a woman decide to establish a family without the presence of a man, and every day view item society becomes more open and responsive.

Grants for single mothers are about 880 thousand women. Around nine out of ten have children under the age of 18 years, and six out of ten live in the household of her father or mother. Almost all work (71.8%), and they receive grants for single mothers though three out of ten live in poverty, this proportion is slightly lower than the national average of mothers with children at home (22.0%).
